Kevin Smith to Direct Upcoming Flash Episode

The CW announced Sunday that director, podcaster and Flash fanboy Kevin Smith, will be calling the shots behind the camera, directing an episode of The Flash. The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association’s press tour.

Smith, director of comic book-centric films like Mallrats and Chasing Amy, is a perfect selection for The Flash. He has written comics for MARVEL, DC and DYNAMITE, and is the host of Comic Book Men, a non-scripted show on AMC about the goings-on inside of his own comic book store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash.

Smith announced to his 2.87 million Twitter followers about taking on the episode by using the hashtag #RunBarryRun.

Listeners to Smith's podcasts and subscribers to his YouTube channel understand how much much this chance to direct The Flash means to him, as he has dedicated entire episodes to discussing the show.

"This is one reason why I love podcasting," Smith told smodcast.com, "you never know where a simple conversation is going to lead. I fell in love with Flash and talked about it passionately on Fat Man on Batman -- and now I'm gonna play in their sandbox!"

The Smith-directed episode of The Flash is slated to air in May, which will give viewers plenty of time to catch up on the speedster-centric episodes of Fat Man on Batman .

Flash fans will surely appreciate Smith's sincere love for the character and the television show.

"Not sure I can direct through tears, but I'll give it a shot," said Smith.
