Newly launched distributor Invincible Pictures has acquired rights to Kevin Smith’s horror-comedy “Yoga Hosers” and has set a summer tour for Smith to roll out the movie.
Produced by StarStream Entertainment, Smodcast Pictures and Destro Films, the film stars Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith in the second installment of Smith’s True North Trilogy. The movie, which premiered at Sundance in January, also features Austin Butler, Tyler Posey, Ralph Garman, Jason Mewes and Johnny Depp, father of Lily-Rose Depp.
Smith is the father of Harley Quinn Smith. The daughters play 15-year-old yoga enthusiasts who hate their after-school jobs at a Manitoba convenience store. They team with Depp’s manhunter character to battle an ancient evil.
Smith will tour with the film across the U.S. in June and July before the pic hits theaters on July 29. Tickets for the tour will go on sale Friday for the following dates:
6/1 – New Orleans, LA at the Joy Theater
6/2 – Ponte Vedra, FL at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall
6/6 – Houston, TX at The Houston Improv
6/12 – Columbus, OH at Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse
7/8 – Durham, NC at The Carolina Theatre
7/12 – San Jose, CA at The Improv
7/17 – San Francisco, CA at Cobbs Comedy Club
The MPAA changed the film’s rating this week from R to PG-13 on the eve of Smith’s scheduled appeal screening.
“Invincible has been a huge supporter of ‘Yoga Hosers’ and Kevin from day one,” said Invincible Pictures CEO Thomas Ashley. “We are honored for ‘Yoga Hosers’ to be our first theatrical release and to give it the attention it deserves. Yoga Hosers is a blast designed for a youth audience. Harley Quinn Smith’s and Lily-Rose Depp’s break out performances do not disappoint.”
Smith said, “I can’t thank Tom and the whole Invincible team enough for backing the weirdest, least appropriate kids’ movie ever made. ‘Yoga Hosers’ means the world to me: because my family is in it and because it’s the movie I most wanted to see back when I was a 12-year-old girl. And even though I made the people I love most in this world do and say some of the stupidest s— ever put in a movie, I was still very particular about who would shepherd our film into the box office wild lands.
“Invincible made a passionate case for making us their inaugural theatrical release. And even though I took four years of Spanish in high school, passion is my second language. I can’t wait to tour the movie and watch it right beside the audience every night, and then answer for my sins afterwards.”
Smith’s top grossing film is 2010’s action-comedy “Cop Out,” starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, with $55 million worldwide. “Tusk” grossed $1.8 million in 2014 for A24.
